Ondo Police Arrest Two for Attempted Murder in Akure

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspects for allegedly attempting to murder a woman in Akure, the state capital, in what the police described as another demonstration of their resolve to clamp down on violent crimes across the state.

The suspects, identified as Sodiq and Emmanuel, were arrested by operatives of the Ijapo Divisional Police Headquarters following a distress call from the victim, Fasuru (female), a resident of the Oke-Ijebu area of Akure.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, the incident was promptly reported to the command, triggering a swift response by officers who were immediately dispatched to the scene. On arrival, the operatives reportedly found the two suspects physically assaulting the victim in a manner that posed a serious threat to her life.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects beat the woman repeatedly until she became unconscious. The police officers intervened, rescued the victim from further harm, and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she is currently receiving medical treatment.

Both suspects were taken into custody, while the case has been transferred to the Command Monitoring Unit for detailed investigation and subsequent prosecution.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, warned residents against resorting to violence, stressing that criminal acts often end in severe legal consequences.

CP Lawal reassured the public of the command’s readiness to respond promptly to distress calls and complaints, adding that the Ondo State Police Command remains fully committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring that justice is served in all cases.

He urged residents of Ondo State to remain law-abiding and to sustain cooperation with the police by providing timely and credible information that would aid crime prevention and enhance public safety.
