Ipele attack: Aiyedatiwa places security agencies on red alert
The Ondo State Government says all security formations in the state have been placed on red alert following an attack on the Divisional Police Station in Ipele, Owo Local Government Area.
The government disclosed that suspected bandits, riding on motorcycles, attacked and vandalised the police facility in the early hours of Wednesday while residents were celebrating the New Year.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Mr Allen Sowore, security agencies swiftly responded to the incident, forcing the attackers to flee.
“The proactive and coordinated response of the security agencies has brought the situation under firm control and significantly reduced the extent of damage,” the statement said.
It clarified that only the police station was affected, adding that no church was attacked and no life was lost during the incident.
The government said calm had returned to Ipele, as security operatives had taken charge of the area and were currently trailing the fleeing suspects.
Meanwhile, Gov. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has directed that all security formations across the state be placed on red alert to forestall any further security breach.
The state government reassured residents of Ipele and other parts of Ondo State of their safety and urged them to remain calm and go about their lawful activities, while security agencies intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
